Two friends BOTH get a DUI after one crashes into a ditch

Two friends were charged with driving under the influence after one called the other to help her after she crashed into a ditch in Nashville on early Thursday morning. 

Officers with the Metro Police Department responded to the scene at 2020 Cooper Lane just after midnight following reports of a vehicle that crashed into a ditch. 

At the scene, they discovered 24-year-old Natasha Nancel outside of her vehicle as it sat in the ditch.

Responding officers noted 'immediately' that the woman smelled of alcohol, according to an affidavit obtained by Scoop Nashville

Nancel told authorities that she had been looking at her phone when she swerved off the road. 

She shared that she had had a glass of wine and an espresso martini at the Fox Bar before leaving. 

Police also found 30-year-old Melvil Arnt at the scene and soon learned that Nancel had called him to come help her after she crashed.

Melvil had a blood alcohol content level of .191 while Nancel (pictured) had a level at .179, both of which are over the legal limit of .08.

But authorities also noted that Arnt's truck had crashed and soon he told them that he had hit his friend's vehicle with his own. 

Arnt admitted to having two beers, according to the affidavit. 

Both Arnt and Nancel were charged with DUI and booked in the Metro Nashville jail but have since been released.
